Currie Cup Odds

The Currie Cup dates to 1891, when Sir Donald Currie asked the touring, unbeaten British Lions to hand a golden cup to whichever South African side had given them the toughest game. Griqualand West won that honour; Western Province took the first official tournament the following year, and the trophy has been contested every season since, making it one of rugby’s oldest domestic prizes.

Eight unions play the Premier Division as a round robin, with six more in a First Division below it, linked by promotion and relegation. Both divisions run July to September before finals decide the champion. Western Province hold the outright record with 34 titles, comfortably ahead of the Blue Bulls on 25, the two most decorated unions in the competition’s history.
