Durban City's first MTN 8 tie since winning the Nedbank Cup already has odds up, two days before kickoff. Here's what the early prices say, and who's offering the best value so far.

South Africa’s MTN 8 kicks off in two days, and the club with the freshest silverware is the biggest outsider on the card. Durban City, freshly crowned Nedbank Cup champions in their first MTN 8 tie since relocating from Pietermaritzburg, face Orlando Pirates away at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, the four-time defending champions chasing a fifth straight title. 18 of the country’s 47 licensed bookmakers already have MTN 8 odds up for the four quarter-finals, this one included.

Durban City Arrive With a Cup Already Won

Durban City left Pietermaritzburg for Durban in August 2024, and needed until May this year to win their first trophy under the new name: a 2-1 comeback victory over TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final, ending KwaZulu-Natal’s 17-year wait for a major honour. That form hasn’t moved the MTN 8 market much. Orlando Pirates, who have won the last four MTN 8 titles in a row, are priced as short as 1.19 to win at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday, with Hollywoodbets, Lucky Fish and SuperSportBet the most generous at 1.35, a 13.4% gap on the same bet. Durban City run from 8.80 up to 11.75 at Playbet, a wider 33.5% gap, and the draw is priced anywhere from 4.00 to 6.12, a 53% gap, the widest spread on this fixture. All 18 bookmakers pricing the MTN 8 so far have this one up, two days before a ball is kicked.

The Even Tie That Bookmakers Can’t Agree On

AmaZulu host Sekhukhune United at Chatsworth Stadium on Sunday in what AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane and much of the build-up has called the most evenly balanced of the four quarter-finals, two sides both capable of frustrating the traditional giants on their day. The odds tell a different story about how confident bookmakers actually are. Sekhukhune United price anywhere from 2.73 up to 5.00, an 83.2% gap, the widest of any outcome in the round, more than six times the 13.4% gap on Pirates’ own win market above. AmaZulu themselves run from 1.70 to 2.57, a 51.2% gap. Only the draw, priced 2.75 to 3.25, shows anything close to agreement, an 18.2% gap. Whatever “even” means on the pitch, it hasn’t produced a shared line among the 18 books already pricing this one.
